The Institute welcomes Johnny Blazes for some gender bending performances

Johnny Blazes having some fun

The Institute welcomes performance artist Johnny Blazes for a weekend of gender bending performances on October 21 & 22.  Johnny’s Friday performance/ presentation explores the visual vocabulary of gender using visual puns and performance tropes. Carrie Lobman will team up with Johnny on Saturday for a “playing around with gender” workshop, in which participants will be invited to try out some new gender performances and (perhaps) nudge their commitment to identity. Friday, Oct. 21 performance is 7-9 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 22 workshop is 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — both at 920 Broadway.  You can REGISTER HERE.

“One of Boston’s rising stars” according to Stuff Magazine, Johnny Blazes is known for tongue-in-cheek performances “that defy categorization.” Johnny has performed at venues such as TraniWreck, The Femme Show, and The Theater Offensive’s Works-In-Progress, and transforms into drag king, femme queen, and sundry colorful characters.
